K-Laser Therapy

K-Laser Therapy

The Class IV K-Laser (High Power Laser Therapy), is the only laser treatment approved for use under the NHS due to the thousands of published studies demonstrating its clinical effectiveness.  It targets damaged tissue with specific wavelengths of light to interact with tissue and accelerates the healing process “photobiomodulation”. The therapy has been found to penetrate tissue and initiate healing on a cellular level, allowing some patients to return to normal, everyday activities faster and with no pain. It is a safe and on-invasive technique that uses the body’s own repair processes.

What does it do?

During each treatment it:

  • Accelerates tissue healing by drawing water, oxygen and nutrients to damaged area;
  • Increases circulation to reduce inflammation & swelling;
  • Allows improved mobility range;
  • Reduces muscle spasm & stiffness; and
  • Reduces pain;

Are there any side effects?

Laser therapy has been used for over 20 years and there are few side effects recorded.  Patients with chronic conditions may experience some additional discomfort at first as the circulation returns to the tissues.

When can’t it be used?

  • If a patient is in 1st trimester of pregnancy;
  • On eyes;
  • Over a tattoo – although the therapist is able to work with this;
  • On the thyroid area;
  • With active cancer – except as a palliative care treatment;

How often are treatments required?

The number of sessions will depend on the exact diagnosis, your age and overall health status. In general, acute conditions can be treated frequently and require fewer visits overall, typically 4 to 6. Chronic conditions may require an initial intensive treatments 2-3 weekly to break down the damaged area and increase circulation but then a few more weekly treatments, around 6-10 show good results.

Does it hurt?

There is little sensation during treatment with the laser.  Most patients are soothed by the warmth or feel some tingling.  Painful areas may feel relief whilst chronic areas may initially feel aggravated as movement returns to stiff areas.  Some patients have a temporary stiffness immediately following treatments but this eases after a few hours.

How quickly does it work?

Most patients feel the immediate effects but results are accumulative and usually a course of treatments works best.  We use K-laser alongside osteopathic treatments and have noticed prolonged effects and it really enhances the effects of osteopathic techniques.

All k-laser packages require an initial first appointment to go through expectations and likely treatment results.

If you have any further questions on K-laser and/or osteopathic treatments, please do not hesitate to contact us or book here.

K-Laser was founded over 30 years ago, and is the culmination of research and development dedicated to enhancing human healthcare in unison with medical and manual professionals. K-Laser is now the global leader in therapeutic, surgical and cosmetic lasers, distributed in over 50 countries worldwide.

Northampton Osteopaths have invested in a state of the art K-laser IV treatment machine which has an innovative infrared 4 level laser beam that would initiate immediate cellular healing from the very first session.  The K-Laser has scientific research to back up  its ability to change tissue structure by flushing inflammatory areas, promoting circulation and instigating bone/tendon/ligament/muscle tissue repair.  This unique method of treatment used in conjunction with osteopathic evaluation and diagnostic allows us to provide tailored treatment that will make the area healthy and functional a lot faster than osteopathic treatment alone.
